So with me, teaching music is a get to not a got to.

But if you love people and you love music, whats the harm in maximizing your income? Its not the raw pursuit of money its simply multiplying yourself so that your skill can benefit more people, and in so doing, benefit yourself as well.

Why beginners?

Because for every advanced music student, there are 100 beginners. Its just a matter of numbers. If you want to teach more advanced students (as I do) thats fine it all adds up. But beginners are the low fruit you can reach them easily and there is no limit to their numbers.

Every year millions more kids get to the age where their parents start thinking about getting music lessons for them, so your prospect list is constantly getting bigger every day. There are plenty of beginners to go around, so competition is really not an issue at all for a person who loves both people and music.

What about adults?

Every year several million people retire from their jobs and careers, and many are looking to take up hobbies they never had time for before.

So if you are a musician looking to increase your income, look no farther. Get a business card and take out a couple low-cost classified ads in your local paper, or place a small ad in your local Yellow Pages. If youre a good teacher, you soon wont need to advertise at all word of mouth will take over and soon youll be teaching other family members and friends, so your expenses will drop to zero as your teaching income rises.

This is really an excellent text for use both in the classroom and on your own. This is a wonderful way to begin training muscles associated with articulation to pronounce different sounds required for singing in other languages. Moriarty provides an excellent foundation for beginning to learn the International Phonetic Alphabet. This is a great reference for IPA symbols and provides a clear, analytical way for forming, both in the brain and with articulators, pretty much any sound in the languages covered. This is a permanent reference in preparing for accurate performances in foreign languages.

Customer Review: a review for Brasil '66 fans
It's been around 40 years since Mendes reached an artistic and commercial peak with several classic albums that successfully mixed bossa nova, jazz, and pop music. Those albums still sound fresh today, thanks to the terrific songs, latin rhythms and some sparkling arrangements. Since then, Mendes has experimented with mixing his Brazilian sound with folk rock, funk, dance music, hip hop, and on "Encanto," some r&b. As someone who prefers the work he did with Brasil '66 to anything more recent, to my ears the album is pleasant though generally forgettable with the exception of a few wonderful tracks. Unsurprisingly the best tracks are those with strong melodies by Antonio Carlos Jobim, in particular "Somewhere in the Hills" and "Dreamer," both of which are direct descendants of the sound of Brasil '66. "Dreamer" includes both Herb Alpert and Lani Hall, who sounds remarkably like she did when she was fronting Brasil '66. This is a genuinely stunning track and easily the best on the album. Natalie Cole sings "Somewhere in the Hills" which is appropriately jazzy and is one of Jobim's strongest melodies. Other Jobim tracks include "Waters of March" which Mendes has covered several times in the past. It's a singer's song, and sounds a little rhythmically stiff here, as it has in his previous efforts. "Morning in Rio" is also good, with a more Brazilian styled melody and a nice trombone solo. The rest of the CD is listenable, but not such that I ever want to hear most of it again. "The Look of Love" is an unnecessary remake of a good song. What made the original great was a sensational big band arrangement which has been dropped in favor of a hip hop arrangement. I liked the Brazilian styled funk of "Odo-ya" and the mellow "Catavento" with Mendes' wife on lead vocals. On the other hand, "Funky Bahia" and "Lugar Comum," the latter of which features an Italian rapper doing a little snippet of "Volare," are disposable pop/hip hop songs. If I could get into Mendes' head, I would try to convince him do an album of Jobim and Marcos Valle songs with Herb Alpert and Lani Hall and a small jazz/bossa combo. It might not sell a million copies, but it would be an artistic triumph. If you're an unreconstructed fan of Brasil '66 as I am, I can recommend this with reservations. You might be better off just downloading a handful of tracks. But "Dreamer" should not be missed.
Customer Review: Summery and enchanting.
"Encanto" follows the highly acclaimed 2006 collaboration with will.i.am Timeless and with this latest release, Sergio takes us even deeper into Brazil, having recorded all the basic tracks in Rio and Bahia and finally finishing up in in California, where the studio band included Alphonso Johnson. For "Encanto" (in Spanish for Enchantment), Mendes has also enlisted the formidable and enchantingly diverse talents of an array of guest musicians who hail from the world over. Latin superstar Juanes from Colombia and multi-talented Carlinhos Brown & Vanessa da Mata from Brazil jostle alongside the foremost Japanese pop group Dreams Come True, Belgium's Zap Mama and Italian rapper Jovanotti. This international cast is completed by the American stars Fergie, Siedah Garrett and Herb Alpert who is accompanied by his wife, original Brasil '66 singer, Lani Hall. Old smoothie Mendes gets jiggy on a selection of bossa-favourites with a raft of guest stars including the ubiquitous Will.i.am and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Natalie Cole and Herb Alpert et all... This new album essentially is a cross between Mendes' soft, salsa-tinged melodies and modern day R'n'B. The opening track, "The Look of Love" with rap/vocals by Fergie, is a deliciously moreish funky-fusion, and for the first third or so, the combination of Sergio's Rhodes with the hip-hopped production style is terrific. Perhaps this new version of Burt Bacharach's "The Look Of Love", which Mendes had originally transposed to bossa nova heaven in 1967 is the boldest track on "Encanto". This new interpretation, produced by Black Eyed Peas will.i.am, preserves the alluring melody of the original while bringing the song into the new millennium with crisp drum programming and a sexy rap by Fergie. Then it goes all smooth jazz on you. Not bad, though. Whether you are a Sergio Mendes fan especially the earlier stuff, Brasil 66, Equinox, etc or a Black Eyed Peas fan, or indeed R&B then there's something on this album to please everyone. I'd say for such a challenging album there are only a couple of songs that are just to heavy hip hop for me. The rest is a joy to listen to, if you are open minded about remixes and love to see what Sergio has been up to. This album is a grower. The more I listen to it, the better it gets. You will like it. Picks of the album: "The Look of Love", "Waters Of March", "Dreamer", and "Somewhere In The Hills (O Morro Nao Tem Vez)". Step shows can be found nearly everywhere in the United States. Once exclusively performed by African American Greek fraternities and sororities who originally helped to develop the popularity of the step shows, these shows are spreading across the country and around the world. More and more people are becoming involved in stepping from campus organizations and church groups to high schools and local communities.

The international Greek lettered fraternities and sororities under the umbrella organization for nine historically Black, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is an international Greek lettered group. . The Greek-lettered societies which are referred to collectively as the "Divine Nine", each evolved as organizations during a period when African-Americans were being denied essential rights and privileges afforded other college students.

Some Greek organizations help to coordinate step competitions in middle and high schools, affording the younger generations an opportunity to experience what stepping is all about. While many of the step show organizations and competitions follow in the footsteps of the African American Greek organizations, they also help preserve and promote their cultural history as well as promote the importance of making a difference in their communities. A portion of proceeds from the step shows sometimes goes to build scholarship funds or used to help the communities. This form of dance give much more than entertainment to the people involved. It also gives them the chance to help out in any way they can.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities or HBCU are educational institutions in the United States that were established before 1964 with the intention of serving the African American community.

In the late 1960s, historically Black fraternities and sororities began embracing stepping at college campuses. Previously using step shows as a rite of passage for pledges, the Black Greek letter system has a strong role in the college step scene. There are often specific steps to each chapter and sometimes the groups playfully mock each other's styles during competitions and benefits. Each society or fraternity has its own step team. Stepping in these organizations provides an enjoyable bonding experience.

Members of step teams practice the routine twice a week, which is coordinated by a trainer. Pulling steps from past experience by members enables teams to mesh together an assortment of steps to keep audiences interested. Members are encouraged to make up their own steps and give suggestions about what works and what does not.

Many people may be discouraged at the sight of a step routine. However, working up from the basics is a good way for people to see that more complex steps are just combinations of simpler things with some crossover. The existence of "rhythm" can be learned over time if it is not immediately integrated. Step Team members enjoy the physical and often aerobic work out.

The All State HBCU Showdown is one of many national stepping competitions that elevates this hundred year tradition of stepping, a complex performance involving synchronized, percussive movement, singing, speaking, chanting, dancing and drama, to the next level.

Kalimoto have quite a unique sound, as anyone who has seen them live, or heard their cd's or mp3's will testify. Their sound might even be described as a testament to a variety of influences, although these influences are not always so obvious. Some critics have described the band as "goth", others as "indie pop", others as "alternative rock", others as "funky space rock"!

Reviewers have made various comparisons as diverse as Mansun, Verve, Coldplay, Doves, Clash, U2, Chameleons, The The, The Jam and Oasis right through to Simon & Garfunkel to DJ Shadow even.....

Memories are What Count

Do you want someone that will select play music based on your preferences, or do you want someone that will play only the list of music you handed him/her before the event. How much talking do you want? Should the DJ say something between every few songs, or simply play the music and not stand out in the crowd? These are very important questions you can ask before booking with your party planner or rental company.

If you are planning a wedding, you may want to consider choosing a DJ that keeps the crowd entertained while the Bride and Groom take pictures, announces the toasts and cutting of the cake. With that in mind, you do not want someone that will take attention away from the newly weds. You should ask your party planner or rental company for someone classy, but fun. Definitely not the same DJ you would hire for a Jr. High or High School dance. For this you would need a wacky personality that will keep the kids entertained with games (bunny hop, electric slide) and a good mixture of fast and slow tunes.

What's Included?
Most DJ's have their own equipment including two speakers, CD/Record Player, Microphone, Dance Lights and all the cords needed. However, make sure you ask your party planner before assuming this. If you find a great DJ that does not have his/her own equipment, then check in advance with the venue to make sure all your bases are covered. Most DJ's will charge a flat rate for a minimum amount of time, so be certain to ask what the extra charges will be in the case that your party continues longer than expected.
